The school
Melaskóli is a comprehensive primary school with around 500 students from 1st–7th grade and about 80 staff. The goal of Melaskóli is to be a successful school based on a solid foundation where joy and empathy, courtesy, and a positive discipline characterize the working environment.

Students' learning and well-being are always a priority. Well-being, cooperation, ambition, and joy in creating are the values emphasized in daily activities. The school places great emphasis on good and strong cooperation with the school's families.
Recreation
The after-school program Selið is for children in 1st and 2nd grade at Melaskóli, and Frostheimar for children in 3rd and 4th grade. The youth center Frosti is for Melaskóli students from 5th to 7th grade.

Emergency response plan
Melaskóli has a response team that follows the school's response plan.
Primary school meals
School meals are free for the 2025-2026 school year. However, the school still needs to track information about allergies and intolerances and limit food waste. Students must register for the school lunch program as before.
Students registered last year will be automatically enrolled. Others need to register. Change the registration at matur.vala.is.
